Police target alcohol-related crime at Coffs HarbourTuesday June 10, 2008 SYDNEY, Australia - Police have conducted a successful licensing operation over the weekend targeting alcohol-related crime in and around Coffs Harbour. The two day operation – ‘Operation Spray’ - was conducted by police from Coffs/Clarence Local Area Command from 6pm Friday 6 June to 4am Sunday 8 June, 2008. This was a high visibility licensing operation aimed at reducing alcohol-related crime such as street offences, alcohol consumption, and alcohol-related violence in the Sawtell and Coffs Harbour areas. The Operation targeted hot-spots and licensed premises in the area, and included a zero tolerance for anyone found consuming alcohol in alcohol-free zones. The following results were obtained by police during the Operation: · 18 business inspections conducted; · 11 person searches conducted; · Six criminal infringement notices issued; · Six move on orders given; · Four street detections for the offence of urinate in public; · Three security licences checked; · Two charges laid for alcohol-related offences; · Two street detections for offensive language; · One Gaming Machine Act breach detected; · One Liquor Act offence detected for supply liquor to minor; · One minor consume liquor in public place detected; and · One intoxication offence detected. Operation Commander, Chief Inspector Shane Cribb said, “Operation Spray is an ongoing initiative by police in the Coffs/Clarence Local Area Command in an effort to combat the misuse of alcohol. “This Operation emphasised the commitment by local police in reducing alcohol-related crime and ensuring community safety. “The responsible service and consumption of alcohol is of primary concern to police in the area. “The responsibility for maintaining safe alcohol practises rests with everyone in the community, and should be taken seriously. “Alcohol-related crime and violence will not be tolerated by police within the Coffs/Clarence Local Area Command and all offenders will be dealt with accordingly,” Ch/Insp Cribb said. |
