Referred to as recognition of prior learning in Australia, you can count any work or qualifications you have already completed in your country and qualify for the same or similar employment or qualification in Australia.
What is Recognition of Prior Learning and How Does it Apply to Me?
As an international student or skilled worker, there are official processes to get your previous study and skills recognised in Australia. Legally authorised Australian Training Organisations (RTOs) can assess your prior learning and individually work with you to provide practical and cost-effective courses to transform your current qualifications and study to diploma-level real Australian qualifications.
Your previous job experiences are included, so any employment that required prior learning, formal or informal, can be included if you have proof of your experiences. Proof can be certifications, licences, memberships to professional associations, portfolios and even photographs and diary entries. Individuals are considered on their merit or proof. References from previous work colleagues and employers can also go towards your proof of qualifications.
How Does RPL Work for Prior Study in a Different Country?
Registered training organisations can compare your prior experiences or qualifications with the outcome of a chosen course for Australian qualifications. Upon assessment, your prior learning can satisfy some or even all of the subjects required in Australia, and you could have your legitimate Australian qualification in weeks! In cases where additional learning is required in an Australian University, you can use your prior experiences and study to qualify for advanced standing, academic credits, or credited subjects. While this may mean you still have some study to do, it can vastly reduce study costs and time. It is important to gain your RPL through an Australian Registered RTO so that your qualification is nationally recognised.
How to Know if Your Australian Provider is Qualified to Award RPL
You must ensure your RTO provider is a reputable and legally authorised Australian registered training organisation.
